Hydrogen Fuel Cell

Case Study 1

Hydrogen UAS Commercialisation

Challenge: Battery limitations restricted infrastructure inspection to 30 minute flights, reducing efficiency, possibility of high quality data payload solutions, customer options, and profitability.Solution: As VP Strategy, led the future technologies vision and Go-To-Market of hydrogen fuel cell UAS in identifying and delivering on customer use cases.Result: Hydrogen-powered achieves up to 150-minute endurance opening up new use cases - giving up to 5x mission coverage, enabling BVLOS operations, increasing efficiency, and lowering project costs.

Case Study 2

400km BVLoS RPAS remote flight management

Challenge
Offshore methane surveys in the North Sea required long-range fixed-wing RPAS 400 km BVLOS operations with dependable Command-and-Control in a harsh maritime environment.
Action
I led development of the flight management system for remote flight operations, integrating multipath satcom, LTE and 2.4 GHz RF, together with data fusion for mission planning and execution. The project was Innovate UK Smart funded.
Result
Delivered a scalable and resilient system for remote BVLOS methane surveys around offshore oil and gas rigs.
This also led to the design and management of a flight test program for a longer endurance airframe and avionics (see picture) and a drone delivery PoC for remote UK islands.

Case Study 3

Williams F1 → Defense Technology Transfer

Challenge
Formula 1 and wider motorsport move ideas from concept to prototype and track testing at extraordinary speed, but the path to commercialisation and business value is slower. The challenge was to identify which technologies could create value beyond motorsport.
Action
I undertook a strategic review of a range of motorsport technologies and developed business cases for market entry into other industries. One area with clear potential was powerplant technology for defense applications.
Result
A power technology that had proven itself in long-endurance motorsport was transferred through partnership to a global armoured vehicle defense company for a new application.

Case Study 4

Innovation management system design and execution

Challenge
Cyberhawk is a scaling a fast-growing global drone inspection business and needed a clearer, more structured way to identify opportunities, prioritise ideas, and turn innovation into operational and commercial impact.
Action
I designed and executed an innovation management system that created a repeatable process for capturing ideas, assessing value, developing business cases, and supporting delivery across the business. This helped connect strategy, operations, and technology practically.
Result
A rise in internal idea generation by ~40%, enabled by a more disciplined and scalable innovation process that supported new service development, improved execution, and helped strengthen Cyberhawk’s position as a leader in drone-based inspection and aerial data management.

Case Study 5

Automotive Product Development

Challenge
Ford Motor Company needed to evaluate emerging technologies and innovations such as hydrogen powertrains and future vehicle feature partnerships to secure long-term profitability and market leadership in Europe’s #1 brand.
Action
Led strategic evaluation and business case development for each of the technologies with engineering, finiacne, marketing, production, and project management to access the proposals and present to senior management for inclusion to the vehicle cycle plan.
Result
Shaped product roadmap for next-gen commercial vehicles to maintain and extend #1 postion from volume and profitability.
